Setting off on our Road Trip to the Jurassic Coast in absolute Luxury!
Starting our road trip journey to the Jurassic Coast in a JDW Luxury Motorhome made all the difference. This modern vehicle offered a cozy space, a fully equipped kitchen, and ample room for our family. Before heading out, we stocked up the large fridge with everything we needed for a long weekend away, loaded up on snacks for the kids, red wine for the big kids, and a fossil hunting guide to prepare for our fossil hunting adventure.
The excitement was infectious as we navigated our way down South. Travelling in the Motorhome was an increadible experience, the drive was smooth and effortless, the windows framed the breathtaking scenery —the lush green hills and quaint villages, perfectly setting the mood for our adventure. We stopped off a few times in picturesque spots, to make sandwiches or have a cup of tea. This made the road trip very much a part of the adventure and experience, and there was no need to find somewhere with a loo... we had one with us!
Durdle Door: Nature's Marvel
Our first stop was Durdle Door, one of England's most famous landmarks. As we arrived, the majestic limestone arch loomed before us. To reach the beach, we embarked on a short hike that got our hearts racing. The views from the top were astounding—a high angle shot of the arch against the turquoise sea is a scene you won't soon forget.

Making our way down, we could hear the waves crashing onto the shore, creating a peaceful soundtrack for our adventure. The beach allowed us to enjoy some classic family activities like building sandcastles and splashing in shallow waters. We made lasting memories as we snapped countless photos, capturing the day's joys.
Beach Bliss: Fun in the Sun
After basking in Durdle Door's views, we decided to beach hop along the coast. The warm sand and sunlight filled us with happiness as the kids joyfully jumped into the waves. We lazed on our picnic blanket and enjoyed delicious homemade sandwiches while soaking in the beauty surrounding us.
While the kids splashed in the surf, we relaxed and let our worries drift away. In those peaceful, sunlit moments, we found a beautiful reminder of what makes family trips special.
As the day unfolded, we explored nearby rock pools, which were brimming with fascinating marine life. The kids delighted in spotting crabs, starfish, and colorful anemones. Each discovery brought squeals of excitement, underscoring the importance of learning and adventure in childhood.
Our attempt at crab fishing at Lyme Regis harbour was unsuccessful, but we managed to lift our spirit with some fish and chips on the beach – tucking in vigilantly as swarms of hungry seagulls attempted to steal our dinner. After, we endulged on ice-cream before heading to the arcade for some fun.
Then as the day drew to a close, being able to unlock the door to our increadible home away from home - on wheels - really made all the difference. The kids could stretch out on their ready made beds to unwind, our eldest son picked up his guitar and played a few songs, and my wife and I cracked open a bottle of wine. This really felt like glamping on a whole new level!

Fossil Hunting: Unearthing Ancient Treasures
One of the trip's highlights was fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast. Known for its rich fossil beds, we aimed to uncover our own bits of history at Charmouth, a popular spot for fossil enthusiasts.
At Charmouth, we joined families and fellow adventurers scouring the beach, all in search of ancient specimens. Armed with a hammer, chisel, and our guidebook, the thrill of the hunt surrounded us.
Searching for fossils felt highly rewarding, each wave crashing revealed a story from the past. With rock formations dating back millions of years, we turned over stones in hopes of finding a treasure beneath.

We were lucky to find several ammonite fossils, one of which was rather large and we were told was a 'rare find'. Each discovery felt like we were in an Indiana Jones movie, feeling like we were holding a piece of history in our hands. Fossil hunting turned out to be an unforgettable experience that added a unique touch to our trip, and definitely something we'll do again very soon.
Memorable Moments
As the sun set on our exhilarating day, we felt immense gratitude for the experiences we had shared. Our road trip to the Jurassic Coast was a blend of laughter, exploration, and togetherness. From the striking sights at Durdle Door to family fun at the beach and the excitement of fossil hunting, we found ourselves more connected with nature and each other.
As we settled back into our comfy Motorhome on our last night, we exchanged stories about our favorite moments. This weekend was more than just a getaway; it became an investment in our family's happiness and memories, and a trip we'll never forget!
